Through the Tunnel and The Silk Scarf

Through the Tunnel

2. - Antagonist
We have two antagonists, namely;
a) The local boy
They did not accept Jerry with open arms and they also thought that he was childish.

b) The sea/the tunnel
These prevented Jerry from reaching his objective. it was difficult for Jerry to hold his breath under water        for a long time. He always had nose bleeds (mostly during evenings). It took so much practice, determination   and hard work for him to hold his breath for at least 2 minutes and swim through the tunnel.

- Protagonist
Jerry was the main character and protagonist in this short story. He was hungry for success in order for him to be as good as the local boys. He did not rest till he got what he wanted.

- Theme
                                                                    Courage and Pride
This is the theme of this short story, because Jerry challenged himself against nature. he wanted to prove to himself that he was just as good as the local boys. They could swim through a tunnel and he practiced for days to perfect himself. His goal pushed him, because he did not want to give up without a fight.

Mrs Nebo and her freind Margaret are theantagonists in this short story. They have violted Mr Sakur's right by threatening him. They have abused their power due to their status in society.

- Protagonist
Mr Sakur and Mr Sader
Mr Sakur's rights were violted just because of the law he has put up in his business. Mrs Nebo felt insulted because of his law.
Mr Sader is the peacemaker of this story, because he is the one who stopped the arguement and still satisfied Mrs Nebo at the end of the day.
